Oral History Training
When we focused on our interviewing we hired a lecturer who
taught oral history. He taught different techniques of interviewing and how to
avoid short answers.
One of the techniques he taught us was to ask questions that can't be answered by 'yes' or 'no'. For example, instead of asking 'how was your day?' ask 'what did you do today?', you'll get a much more detailed reply.
After learning the techniques he gave us equipment and we interviewed each other. He also told us about respecting their stories as in don't change their words and when asked to not show a certain thing, they don't show it.
